SUMMARY
The variation in state laws that criminalize some activities, which are legal in other states, encourages people to have contempt for our system of laws and it leads to confusion nationally. COMMENTARY
Cities, counties, states, and the national government each have their own laws. These laws may not be compatible and they may even be contradictory. Only after one sustains an injury due to these ill-conceived laws is one given an opportunity to bring this acknowledgement to the courts to begin the process of correction. Even after a person identifies these laws, the legislature is under no obligation to make corrections unless directed to by the Supreme Court.
SOLUTION
Create a single set of laws for the entire country with a single law enforcement agency. Eliminate the constitutionally sanctioned state governments, which empower the county and city governments. This would lead to a more efficient government that is capable of more consistently enforcing the same set of laws.
Require that government workers, who become aware of laws that are either inconsistent or impractical to enforce, notify legislators. Either the legislators must then have an obligation to defend the current law to the person identifying the problem with it or they must act to correct the law. Every citizen must also have this power to easily call attention to such defective laws and command the same response from the legislature.
